Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty Of Medicine - Department Of General Surgery
Since the invention of laparoscopy ; great advances have been achieved in laparoscopic surgery with a widespread success in many procedures in general surgery Laparoscopic colorectal procedures were first described However , although large numbers of laparoscopic colorectal procedures have been performed worldwide , the adaptation of minimal access techniques to colonic resection has not proceeded at a rate comparable to that of other areas of general surgery The reasons for this delay include the relative high degree of laparoscopic skills required and expensive instrumentation However , still the patients get benefit from the reduced pain , earlier recovery and rapid return to work The future of laparoscopic surgery in management of colorectal diseases still needs more time and more trials for accurate assessment of their efficiency
