Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Aerospace Engineering Summary: This thesis presents a general formulation for the structural design optimization of an airplane wing. Simplified realistic optimization models for the main box section of the wing structure, as extracted from the general formulation are presented. The aerodynamic variables are chosen to be the wing aspect ratio and chord taper ratio, while the structural variables encompassed spar locations, spar flange cross-sectional areas, shear webs and covering skin thicknesses
