Cross - layer design has become the focus of recent research efforts in wireless communication networks due to the fact , that it promises significant improvements to the performance of next generation wireless networksThe layered protocol stack in which only the adjacent layers communicate shows shortcomings when applied to the wireless environments as isBy proposing cross - layer modifications to the traditional protocol stack , several recent researches solved problems which are hard to solve by using the traditional operation of the layered stackThese are the main reasons why cross - layer design is being considered as a key enabling technology for future wireless networks
