Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - National Institute Of Laser Enhanced Sciences (NIELS) - Department Of Industrial and Materials Processing
The optical wireless or free space optics (FSO) system is now considered a viable option to optical fiber communication for short distances of 4km or less They offer many features , such as low start - up and operational costs , rapid deployment , and high bandwidths FSO system is subject to atmospheric attenuation and scintillation These atmospheric effects reduce the system availability and link distance Multiple transmit beams and large receive apertures are used to mitigate the scintillation effects The laser transmitter power should be limited for eye - safe and must be sufficient to overcome the system losses
