Nucleophosmin (NPM1 ) exon -12 gene mutations have recently been described in patients with acute myeloid leukemia especially those with normal cytogenetics . It is restricted to the compartment of myeloid cells since NPM1 mutations do not target lymphoid cells . It is involved in various cellular processes including target lymphoid cells
