Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Pharmacy - Department of Pharmaceutics Summary: Non - steroidal anti - inflammatory drugs are widely used for controlling inflammation however the patient may suffer from undesirable side effects such as gastric ulceration altering platelet function and renal toxicity due to inhibition of COX - 1 enzyme . These side effects are minimum in case of selective COX - 2 drugs . Multiple acute or chronic exposure to the harmful range of UV radiation (UVB) may lead on long terms to serious consequences including skin cancer in susceptible persons
