Dissertation note: Thesis (PH.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty Of Science - Department Of Inorganic Chemistry Summary: In the present work , new developed stainless steels with different combinations of nickel and nitrogen have been produced to investigate the effect of partial and total replacement of nickel by nitrogen on tensile properties at room and elevated temperatures as well as oxidation resistance in air at high temperatures and corrosion resistance in different chloride mediaThe produced stainless steels were forged , heat treated and testedThe solubility behavior of alloy carbides and nitrides in the different treatments was studiedThe microstructure of produced stainless steels was observed and the grain size measuredThe tensile properties were determined at room and elevated temperatures up to 700 oCAlso , the oxidation resistance in air at high temperatures up to 800 oC was investigatedFurthermore , the corrosion behavior of developed stainless steels in different chloride media was also examined
