Diabetes mellitus is a disorder characterized by hyerglycemia due to an absolute or relative deficiency of insulin and or insulin resistance . Diabetes patients are prone to long- term complications such as retinoopathy cataract atherosclerosis neuropathy and nephropathy by increasing protein glycation and the gradual build - up of AGEs in body tissues and activation of the RAGE leading to a cascade of pro- imflammatory and pro- coagulant responses which are important in the pathogenesis of the vascular complications of diabetes
