Dissertation note: Thesis (PH.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty Of Agriculture - Department Of Animal Production Summary: Three quail lines were used in this work to study the effects of mass selection for increased either 42 - days body weight or growth rate from one - days up to 42 day of age on some growth and fitness traits in Japanese quail : HBW42 line was established for high body weight at 42 day of age , HGR1 - 42 line was established for high growth rate during the period from one - day to 42 day of age and randombred control line (RBC) was maintained as non - selected pedigreed populationThe observed selection differential in standard units of the present study varied from 066 to 145 for males and from 111 to 121 for females
