Pterygium is a wing shaped fibrovascular tissue arising from the subconjunctival tissues . It most commonly affects young healthy individuals who are considerably troubled by cosmetic apperance , dry eye and occasionally painful symptom . Despite evolution and modification of pterygiium excision techniques , recurrence continues to be a limiting factor to success and represent a significant surgical problem
