This study investigated langston Hughes's stylistic employment of deixis that dramatizes the racial conflict between black and white Americans in his best poems. It is the first linguistic stylistic study of Hughes's poetry to date. The study proposed a linguistic stylistic theory of deixis, catering for literary and non-literary texts, after identifying the discipline of stylistics
