An assessment of clinical requirements in radiotherapy shows that a high accuracy is necessary to produce the desired result of tumour control rates that are as high as possible, consistent with mantaining complication rates within acceptable levels, all recent developments in radiotherapy technology and the improved performace of modern equipment cannot be fully exploited unless a high degree of accuracy and reliability in dose delivery is reached
