In addition to imaging tissues easily seen by clinical methods, it images structures otherwise hidden from clinical visualization, including the ciliary body and zonules . UBM was particularly useful in diagnosis of IPE cysts, in visualization of small ciliary body melanomas, in the differentiation of iris melanomas from iris nevi and demonstration of serous peripheral retinal detachment where association with ciliary body melanoma
