Thesis (PH.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty Of Agriculture - Department Of Microbiology
Large quantities of agricultural residues with low feed values are produced throughout the worldMost of these materials are not only wasted natural resources but are serious source of environmental pollution as wellAccumulation of such wastes results in hazardous and environmental problems that contribute negatively to health and welfare of mankindIt has been estimated that worldwide production of plant materials by photosynthesis is annually over 160 billion tonsMuch of these materials end up as waste residues and burned or buriedIncreasing concern about environmental problems as well as food and feed shortages have stimulated interest in converting these agricultural wastes to commercially valuable productsRecently , attempts are growing in Egypt towards extending agriculture to desert and marginal soils and applying bio - organic farming systemTherefore , mass production of beneficial microorganisms as biofertilizers or biological control agents is of paramount importance to support governmental policies in this respectThis is to contribute to the general target of producing more food , with better quality , to over - increasing population
