In addition the use of volatile anaesthetics may lead to myocardial depression and peripheral vasodilatation . Also avoidance of using neuromuscular blocking agents makes no fluctuations in heart rate . The stress response to sugery is characterized by increased secretion of pituitary hormones and activation of the sympathetic nervous system . Central neuraxial blockade may attenuate this response
