The great bitter lake area comprises sediments ranging in age from paleozoic to pleistocene with several hiatus . The paleozoic section consists mainly of carboniferous and the overlying permian deposits . It overlies unconformably the basement rocks as the ordovician silurian and devonian have no records in the area
