Food additives are defined as non - nutritive substances added intentionally to food generally in small quantities to improvee its appearance flavor texture or storage properties . Although more than a thousand food additives generally recognized as safe toxicity is still possible . The FDA has stated that some of food additives have no health hazards while the use of others is subjected to repeated review
