Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Clinical and Chemical Pathology Summary: The causes of bone marrow failure in aplastic anemia are not readily identified in the majority of cases. Stem cell abnormalities, stromal microenvironment dysfunction and immune-mediated defects are features identified following diagnosis of aplastic anemia, either singly or in combination. It is generally appreciated that bone marrow microenvironment consists of adipocytes, fibroblasts, osteoblasts osteoclasts and endothelial cells, all derived from MSCs, which support hematopoiesis and regulate almost overall immune cell function
