Lichen planus in an inflammatory disease of skin and oral mucosa. Evidence has accumulated that cytotoxic CD8+ve T lymphocytes recognize an antigen on lesional keratinocytes and lyse them. Many authors considered human herpes virus-7 (HHV-7) as a possible antigen for inducing cytotoxic immune response in lichen planus
