Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Radio-diagnosis Summary: To explain the basic radiation dose concepts especially those related to CT, evaluate the biological effects associated with exposure in diagnostic radiology, weigh the risk of radiation exposure in MSCT against natural risk and explain methods of reduction of exposure. Risk associated with MSCT exposure is low comparable to natural risk of developing cancer yet remains significant. Other biological effects may occur. Dose reduction and modulation techniques are effective in achieving ALARA principle
