Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Medical Biochemistry Summary: The study was carried out on 58 patients suffering from NIDDM (18 lean diabetic, 20 obese diabetic, 20 patients with MetS), and 20 healthy age and sex matched controls all patients were subjected to: thorough clinical evaluation, routine laboratory investigation and abdominal ultrasonography. The mean serum levels of IL-6 and leptin were significantly elevated in diabetic obese and MetS patients
