Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Pharmacy - Department of Microbiology and Immunology Summary: A yield of 24.8 g rifamycin 1⁻¹ was achieved in a laboratory bioreactor using NCH strain of Amycolatopsis mediterranei through the following scaling up regime; firstly, optimized production in shake flasks through medium modifications and fed-batch addition of uracil. This resulted to an increase in the yield from 11.75 to 14.3 g/1 (21.7%) using F2m1 medium
