Cardiac glyosides constitute a class of natural steroidal products that are produced by several plant and animal species as secondary metabolites . Plants containing such cardiotonic steroids are traditionally used to enhance the contractile force of the cardiac muscle in patients with congestive heart failure and cardiac arrhythmias . Recently they are widely addressed as useful drugs in cancer therapy
