Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Tropical Medicine Summary: This study included all cases admitted to Shebin Elkom Fever Hospital during the period from July 2008 to June 2011 with the clinical suspicion of meningitis. Result showed that clinical manifestations, routine laboratory studies (CSF leukocyte count, protein, glucose) and plasma inflammatory markers (WBC and C-reactive protein) were of limited value in the diagnosis of meningitis and in differentiating bacterial from non-bacterial meningitis
