  • Issued also as CD
Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Electrical Power and Machines Summary: The concern over the possible adverse effects of power line magnetic fields is prompting authorities worldwide to adopt precautionary approaches and develop policies aimed at mitigating those fields in areas where people work or reside . This thesis contributes to these efforts by exploring diverse mitigation techiques . Three mitigation techniques , passive shielding , active shielding and cost effective mitigation by active loops , all based on evolutionary computation ( genetic algorithm ) are employed to produce optimal reduction in the magetic field near power lines
