Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a major angiogenic factor and prime regulator of endothelial cell proliferation . During pregnancy , VEGF is essential for the proliferation of trophoblasts , the development of embryonic vasculature and the growth of maternal and fetal blood cells in utero
