Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Urology Summary: Four factors for urinary stones formation: Urinary super saturation, inhibition and promotion, particle retention, and matrix. In this study, a higher pre-ESWL RI correlated with a lower treatment success rate. Using RI cut-off values of 0.68, we can successfully predict a stone-free condition with positive predictive rates of 87.5%. We therefore suggest that this simple and easily performed examination can be used as an effective tool for clinical decision-making regarding ESQL or any alternative treatment modality
