Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Civil Engineering Summary: This thesis concerned with studying the use of stone columns in improving the behavior of soft clay soils underneath embankments . A numerical study was carried out using the finite element program PLAXIS. To ensure the reliability of the analysis a published case history was used to calibrate the developed numerical model . The calibrated model was used to study the effect of the embankment dimensions on the composite ground behavior and the behavior of the soft clay reinforced with stone columns and geosynthetics
