Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics Summary: Objective ; To evaluate the presence of cell free fetal DNA in maternal urine as a potential source of material for non - invasive prenatal diagnosis and determine when it is first detected . Results : We found that cell- free fetal DNA can be readily detected in maternal urine starting from 16 weeks (10 out of 40 cases) using the Y -chromosome as marker and it increases with advancing gestational age (32 out of 40 cases at 20 weeks) but it was not detected at earlier gestational age of 12 weeks
