Acute renal failure (ARF) is associated with increased mortality. Our aim is to determine the influence of ARF on patient outcome in severe sepsis and septic shock. A total of 60 patients with a diagnosis of sepsis were divided into two groups according to the incidence of ARF. All included patients were subjected to full clinical evaluation, routine laboratory investigations and specific markers of kidney injury including the fractional excretion of sodium and the creatinine clearance
