Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics Summary: Infertility is defined as the inability to achieve pregnancy after 12 months of unprotected, adequately timed intercourse. The problem affects about 20% of couples. Peak fertility occurs at age 25 and a steep decline in fertility occurs after age of 35 years. The proportion of infertility attributable to a tubal cause is considered to be slowly rising, due to the increasing prevalence of salpingitis, the growing number of ectopic pregnancies and the fact that microsurgical and laparoscopic interventions are becoming more common
