Postantibiotic effect (PAE) is an important pharamacodynamic parameter, which describes the suppression of bacterial growth after a short exposure of bacteria to antimicrobials. PAE has been one of many explanations for the success of intermittent dosing with drugs that exhibit short half-lives, thus it may also be considered in designing antibiotic dosing regimens
