Alloferons are a group of insect bioactive peptides. They were isolated from the bacteria challenged larvae of the blow fly calliphora vicina. Alloferon -1 is a slightly cationic, cytokine - like tridecapeptide with frequently occurring histidine residues. It is a linear peptide that exhibits functional similarity to interferons. It has been reported that Alloferon -1 is a potential immunomodulatory agent that possesses antimicrobial and antitumor activity
