Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Civil Engineering
The thesis presents and discusses in details results (both as-monitored and manipulated) of the time history inelastic (incremental dynamic) analysis of different design schemes/scenarios of acase study bridge with 2buffer {u2013} gap {u2013} elastomeric bearing3 system under seven pre-selected earthquake records. The effect of changing some parameters on the overall response of the bridge{u2013} both at the design demand level and at collapse {u2013} is also investigated and some justifications/conclusions are highlighted and emphasized. In more specific terms, results of the main base cases of the bridge under investigation designed for moderate to high seismic demand corresponding to ag = 0.3g and with non-sliding elastomeric bearings at abutments are first presented followed by their equivalent schemes designed for low to moderate seismic demands (ag = 0.15g). Then, the results of some selected additional investigated schemes of the case study bridge {u2013} often encountered in practice {u2013} are also presented for comparison purposes
