The term autoimmune disease refers to a varied group of illnesses. More than 80% of these serious chronic illnesses involve almost every human organ system. Lupus erythematosus (LE) which is an autoimmune disease may affect joints, heart, lung, kidneys and blood cells, it may also attack skin and it is called cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE). CLE includes a variety of specific skin lesions that are subdivided, based on clinical morphology, average duration of skin lesions and routine histopathological examination, into three categories: chronic CLE where discoid lesions are the most common manifestation called discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE), sub acute CLE (SCLE) and acute CLE (ACLE)
