Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Nursing - Department of Surgical Nursing Summary: Foot ulceration in patients with diabetes is a costly and common problem and the leading cause of nontraumatic lower extremity amputation. Diabetic neuropathy is one of the leading causes of foot ulceration. Currently, the gold standard for clinicbased evaluation of sensory neuropathy in patients with diabetes is examination with a 5.07/ 10g Semmes - Weinstein Monofilament (SWM). Monofilament testing is an inexpensive, easy - to - use, accurate and portable device for assessing the loss of protective sensation, and it is recommended by several practice guidelines to detect peripheral neuropathy as a significant risk factor for development of diabetic foot ulceration
