Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Ophthalmology
Diabetic macular edema (DME) is one of the most commoncauses of visual loss in patients with diabetes. The most efficient tool for preventing vision lossfrom DR is screening and identification of at-risk patients. Thegold standard treatment in recent decades has been macular laser photocoagulation, which reducesthe risk of moderate visual loss by approximately 50%. In recent years, alternative or adjunct treatments for DMEhave been studied such as intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide (IVTA) and therapies using inhibitorsof vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)
