The most efficient tool for preventing vision lossfrom DR is screening and identification of at-risk patients. Thegold standard treatment in recent decades has been macular laser photocoagulation, which reducesthe risk of moderate visual loss by approximately 50%. In recent years, alternative or adjunct treatments for DMEhave been studied such as intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide (IVTA) and therapies using inhibitorsof vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)
