Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Clinical and Chemical Pathology Summary: Background: Preeclampsia (PE) remains one of the leading causes of maternal death. Preeclampsia affects approximately 6% of all pregnancies and is associated with increased prenatal morbidity and mortality. Objective To evaluate whether first trimester maternal serum placenta protein 13 (PP13) can predict pre-eclampsia among women with a priori high risk .Method: This was a nested case{u2013}control study included 30 patients with increased risk for preeclampsia and 60 patients with normal pregnancies at 11-14 weeks of gestation .Venous blood samples were collected . Serum PP13 concentrations were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay . PP13 multiples of medians were calculated and adjusted for body mass index, maternal age and parity. PP13 levels was compared between women who developed pre-eclampsia and controls
