Optimum design of solar water desalination systems by humidification and dehumidification / Khalid Mohamed Abdelaziz Mohamed Abdelaziz ; Supervised Sayed M. Metwalli

By: Contributor(s): Material type: TextTextLanguage: English Publication details: Cairo : Khalid Mohamed Abdelaziz Mohamed Abdelaziz , 2014Description: 52 P. ; 30cmOther title:
  • التصميم الأمثل لأنظمة تحلية المياه بالطاقة الشمسية عن طريق التبخير و التكثيف [Added title page title]
Subject(s): Online resources: Available additional physical forms:
  • Issued also as CD
Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Mechanical Design and Production Summary: For semi - isolated communities, fresh water may be scarce; however, brackish water or seawater may be easily accessed. This provides a drive to develop optimum - cost desalination system for such communities. This work presents the optimization of a water - heated and air - heated solar - powered humidification - dehumidification (HDH) desalination system with variable saline water flow rate. The design variables include the sizing of solar collectors, storage tank and its internal heat exchanger, humidifier, dehumidifier and specific hot air flow rate. A program was developed to predict performance based on selected weather data file and optimize the system for minimum unit cost of produced fresh water
