Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Architectural Engineering Summary: Global warming and sea level rise are current challenges facing humanity at our present time. As carbon dioxide is one of the main causes of global warming, it became a crucial matter the study the strategies of decreasing the carbon emissions. As buildings account for a large amount of greenhouse gases and specially co2, furthermore, office buildings are growing in number due to the development in industrial and business field. As a result, they also contribute enormously in the total carbon dioxide gas emissions of Egypt and specially cairo as it{u2019}s the capital and the center of all business headquarters. Lighting consumes a huge energy amount thus contributes numerously in the carbon dioxide emissions. Using smart lighting systems is a way of reducing the co2 emissions from office buildings. This thesis will study how efficient is using smart lighting systems in office buildings to reduce carbon emissions
