Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Mechanical Power Engineering Summary: A numerical and mathematical study of heat transfer and fluid flow as thermal heating or cooling in porous media as a packed bed system to predict the thermal performance, behavior and characteristics of the spongy-porous media is presented in this work. Finite difference technique and thomas algorithm solver are used to solve the couple of the two partial differential equations along with their associated initial and boundary conditions. The modified computer program is used to obtain the solution of transient temperature distribution. The amount of stored/released heat inside/from each of the selected porous medium is obtained
