Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Pharmacy - Department of Pharmaceutics Summary: This study aimed to deliver bumadizone calcium semihydrate to the colon. Colon targeting demands minimizing release of the drug before target area (pH 1.2 & 6.8) and maximizing release of the drug in target area (pH 7.4). Targeting drugs to the colon would reduce their side effects , especially for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) that cause gastritis , dyspepsia and nausea , together with improving drug efficacy and reducing dosing frequency. Colon targeting of NSAIDs could be used to locally treat inflammatory bowel disease
