Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Pharmacy - Department of Pharmaceutics Summary: Tablets are the most popular oral formulations available in the market and referred by patients and physicians alike. Multiple daily dosing is often inconvenient for patients and can result in missed doses and patient incompliance with the therapeutic regimen. Controlled-release dosage forms offer several advantages over conventional therapy as they improve patient compliance, maintenance of drug level within the desired range, achieving better plasma profile, fewer administration and lower drug toxicity. Many physical and chemical approaches have been applied to produce well characterized dosage forms that control drug input into the body within the specifications of the desired release profile
