Dissertation note: Thesis (M.A.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Arts - Department of English Summary: The idea of resistance provides a primary framework for the critical project of postcolonial studies. Traditionally, resistance signifies organized political and military struggle against colonial rule and the structures of colonial power. As a result, resistance constitutes liberation as the eviction of colonial rule and the redemption of national identity, ignoring the transformative potential of postcolonial cultures and subjects. Despite the centrality of the concept for the development of the field, postcolonial transformation is a concept that received only limited theoretical examination. Therefore, drawing upon the psychoanalytical theory of Jacques Lacan, the present study examines three modes of postcolonial transformation - resistance, horizon and minor literature - in the critical theories offered by some contemporary postcolonial critics: Ashis Nandy, Homi Bhabha and Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari
