Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Institute of Statistical Studies and Research - Department of Biostatistics and Demography Summary: The study has two main objectives; Identifying the demographic and socio - economic differentials of internal migration in Egypt as well as its linkages to the changes in poverty levels and distribution, over the study period as well as investigating the extent to which migration was a successful livelihood strategy to escape out poverty and to raise the standard of living. Moreover, defining the determinants that condition using such strategy and their importance. The analysis in this study is based on two data sets: the Egypt labor market panel survey 2006 and the Egypt labor market survey of 1998. The answer of the key research question is that; internal migration decision among wage employees didn{u2019}t play a role to improve the migrants{u2019} economic status in Egypt during 1998 - 2006. And above all, the poor experienced a loss in their real wages
