Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Pediatrics
Cardiotoxicity is one of the most serious complications after anthracycline chemotherapy, so early diagnosis, prevention and treatment are crucial .Tissue doppler imaging (TDI) and 2 - D speckle tracking echocardiography (2D - STE) are novel echocardiographic modalities that can be used for early diagnosis of cardiotoxicity. The aim of this study was to determine the possibility of early detection of anthracyclines induced cardiotoxicity in children with acute hematological malignancies using TDI and 2D - STE. Thirty pediatric patients with acute hematological malignancies underwent echocardiographic examinations before and after induction chemotherapy. Their median age was 8.5 years ranging from 4 to17 years conventional echo, TDI, 2D - STE were done. MPI of left and right ventricles, global longitudinal strain, circumferential strain and strain rates, basal, apical rotation and torsion of left ventricle, TAPSE and MAPSE were measured
