Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Science - Department of Organic Chemistry Summary: This work has been carried out to investigate chemical reactivity and synthetic potentiality of 3-cyano-2- pyridinethione via its reaction with various reagents such as halogen containing compounds to afforded Thieno [2,3-b] pyridine derivatives. 2- Hydrazinylpyridine-3-carbonitrile and 3- aminopyrazolopyridine through the reaction of 3-cyano-2- pyridinethione derivatives with hydrazine hydrate . Structures of the newly synthesized compounds were elucidated by using elemental analyses and spectroscopic techniques such as IR , Mass spectrometry , and 1 H NMR . Structures of some of the newly synthesized compounds were confirmed via alternative synthesis . Antimicrobial activity of some of the final products were examined
