This experimental research sought to examine the impact of children's exposure to television news on their fright and worry symptoms and the nature of coping strategies that they apply to reduce their news induced fears. The impact of gender and socioeconomic status on the prevalence of these phenomena was further examined. The study was conducted on a sample of 260 late elementary school children. In line with Piaget's theory of cognitive development, findings proved that exposure to TV news led to the emergence of worry symptoms that were greatly prevalent among those children compared to fright symptoms. Girls and children descending from families of low SES were most vulnerable to these negative effects. Additionally, owing to cognitive abilities, children had a great tendency to apply cognitive coping strategies to mitigate their news induced fear compared to non cognitive ones
