Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Arts - Department of English Summary: Revealing hegemonic forms in discourse have become a major concern in literary production and scholarship particularly since the end of the second world war. This attempt has taken several forms: Deconstruction, post - colonialism, and postmodernism. This thesis aims to challenge traditional critical output on Howard Brenton{u2019}s and Tariq Ali's work as merely political (in accord with a deconstructive post - colonial approach) by attempting to decode the complexity of some of their plays against postmodern concepts proposed by Ihab Hassan
