The microenvironment of acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) is suppressive for immune effector cells. Regulatory T cells (Tregs) have been recognized as a contributor factor and may be recruited and exploited by leukemic cells to evade immunesurveillance. The mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs), the second largest population of long lived stem / progenitor cells in the bone marrow play an important role in immunomodulation of the microenvironment as they can promote differentiation of CD4 + CD25 + regulatory T - cell subsets via the indoleamine 2,3- dioxygenase (IDO) pathway. The aim of the present work was to evaluate the expression of indoleamine dioxygenase in bone marrow derived MSCs and to study its correlation to percent of regulatory T cells
